Hon Iain Lees-Galloway Luncheon
Join us for our first luncheon of 2019 with Hon Iain Lees-Galloway, who holds the portfolios of ACC, Immigration and Workplace Relations and Safety. He will focus on recent changes in immigration settings and how they’ll be better for regional economies, tackling labour shortages, developments in employment law, and the Government’s general direction over the remaining term.
Since Minister Lees-Galloway last visited Marlborough, changes have proposed to make the Immigration system work better for regional economies and make it easier for accredited employers to attract workers on temporary work visas, and good progress is being made on fair pay agreements and the holidays act.
Iain’s priority as Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety, is for all working New Zealanders to enjoy a fair share of New Zealand’s prosperity and participate in safe and constructive workplaces.
In the Immigration portfolio, Iain is determined to achieve better economic growth by matching migrant skills to the regions and industries where they are needed most, and ending exploitation of migrant workers and students. Describing ACC as a national taonga, Iain aims to protect and enhance the scheme as New Zealand approaches the 50th anniversary of the Corporation.
Iain has been the Member of Parliament for Palmerston North since 2008. Born in South Auckland, Iain grew up with a farming family near Waiuku and then Hawkes Bay. After moving to Palmerston North to study at Massey University, he decided to stay and make the city his permanent home.
Iain is married to Clare, an early childhood teacher, and they have three school-aged children.
